Researchers have described a fascinating new organism discovered in a geothermal pool in Lassen Volcanic National Park that they’re calling Incendiamoeba cascadensis. It can survive at hotter temperatures than any other known eukaryotic organism and continues to be able to reproduce up to 145 degrees Fahrenheit, with researchers believing that it should be able to change into a cyst to survive at even hotter temperatures.
